Tinkoff Bank has started collecting customer data for the purposes of the Key Rostelecom Unified Biometrics System (UBS). The data is captured across all Russian regions where the Bank’s representatives work.
The UBS is a digital platform developed by Rostelecom following a request from the Bank of Russia and the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media. Any Russian citizen can now register with the system, which will use a combination of a photo and voice profile for registration purposes. The registration is handled by the Russian banks that joined the project. Registered participants are able to purchase products and services remotely from any bank with no need to visit a bank’s office or show a passport, as Key Rostelecom digital profiles are used for customer identification.
The system was launched on 1 July 2018, and Tinkoff Bank registered its first biometric data on the same day. From 30 October 2018, registration in Key Rostelecom via Tinkoff is available in all Russian regions covered by the network of the bank’s representatives. After a simple application procedure, a bank representative arrives at the customer’s convenience with all necessary equipment.
