Tinkoff Bank rolls out a facial recognition system in its ATMs to make them even more convenient and secure.

The software in Tinkoff Bank’s ATMs features the VisionLabs LUNA integrated facial identification and verification platform. The ATMs also have a special camera which can be used for both video surveillance and facial recognition at the same time. Going forward, the facial recognition system will enhance customer experience and add more security to transactions.

This will be a gradual deployment, with the project at its pilot stage now. In late 2016, Tinkoff Bank already integrated LUNA in the bank’s infrastructure and mobile devices of personnel to authenticate clients, conduct internal audit and build up the photo database.

The first ATMs are already up and running in Moscow. In August and September, the Bank will be launching more in large shopping malls of St Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, Perm, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Krasnodar, Rostov-on-Don, Sochi, Samara, Ufa, Saratov, Omsk, Krasnoyarsk, Voronezh, and Novosibirsk. The location of ATMs can be found in the Tinkoff mobile app.

Tinkoff Bank’s ATMs are the most technologically advanced in the Russian market: they support QR codes and will use the facial recognition system in the future. One can make large cash withdrawals or top-ups in roubles and in foreign currency using our ATMs. In addition to the additional service and technological features that our own ATMs provide, it is important to remember that our customers can still withdraw cash from any ATM worldwide free-of-charge.»

Tinkoff Bank ATMs offer withdrawal, top-up, money transfer and payment services, and accept Mastercard, Visa and Mir cards.

Tinkoff ATMs are the first in Russia to support transactions using QR codes. QR-code based money transfers are often used by our customers, so we decided to add this function to our ATMs as well. The QR code capabilities include:

• Top-ups. You need to generate a QR code through your mobile app and have it scanned by the ATM from your phone screen. The ATM will read the code and credit the money.
• Withdrawals. To withdraw cash, you need to use your mobile app to generate a QR code for the desired amount and have it scanned and identified by the ATM.

No card is needed to make withdrawals and top-ups using QR codes.

The code you have generated can be sent to your family, friends or colleagues for them to make ATM top-ups or withdrawals for you.

Our ATMs also support contactless payments: holders of Tinkoff Bank contactless cards and Apple Pay, Android Pay and Samsung Pay users can make one-touch withdrawals, top-ups and transfers. For the customers of other banks, this option is available only for Mastercard holders.
